Google Glass may assist first responders in disaster areas
The augmented-reality headset Google Glass
is getting a second life as a tool to help paramedics and emergency medical
technicians in disaster areas.
When first responders enter the scene of an
active shooting or chemical spill, they must rapidly decide how to prioritise
patient care. However, they do not always have the medical expertise to
actually identify who needs the most pressing attention. Wearing Google Glass
while assessing patients would allow first responders to consult with surgeons
and other doctors back at the hospital in real time, and identify patients who
urgently need care.
